artificial intelligence will impact ophthalmology enormously.

Dr Horsburgh delivered an AI lecture at a regular Northside Eye Specialist Optometry CPD Meeting, Wednesday, February 28. The graphics and illustrations were generated using AI via Open AI's latest iteration of chatGPT plus.

He reviewed a large metanalysis of AI publications involving ophthalmology over the last seven years. Artificial intelligence will be integral as to how medical treatments and ophthalmology more specifically develop over the next few years. the visual nature, of opthalmology and investigations makes it very amenable to the application of artificial intelligence.

The power of the latest iteration of chat GPT plus is extraordinary. Using the visual image generator DALL-E and voice activation, unique images are produced in less than 10 seconds by speaking to the programme. The image will be different every time and will also be different, depending on which parameters are suggested and whether one is precise or imprecise, in asking the question.

Utilising AI and the power of DeepBlue's technology, thousands of fundal photographs were assessed, and, without being asked, DeepBlue found an association between fundal photo characteristics and an increased incident of Alzheimer's disease. It is unknown, the extent or the speed with which AI will be incorporated into routine healthcare.
